What is the dosage and how should it be used?

Pentoxifylline comes as an extended-release (long-acting) tablet to be taken orally. It is usually taken three times a day.

Follow the directions on the prescription label.

Do not break, crush, or chew the tablets. Swallow them whole. They are specially coated to protect your stomach.

You can take pentoxifylline with food or antacids if it upsets your stomach.

Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed.

Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

Moreover, elderly patients over 65 years old need smaller doses to reduce possible side effects.

Do not stop taking this medication suddenly. It may take up to 8 weeks for you to see beneficial effects from pentoxifylline.
